BCBC retreat (2) It was a wonderful weekend with the youth group! Our youngest is 5th grade; our oldest, a couple of college ... oh, my, can they really be juniors already? Goodness! {Well, really, our youngest was Charlie, the dog, and I'm oldest at 64 ... but you know what I mean.}
We studied the armor of God from Ephesians. Made shields of faith the first night: posterboard, with pictures or writing showing our relationship to God and others, and what we like and are good at. Saturday morning we made helmets of salvation—foamie visors, decorated with fabric paint. Our breastplates of righteousness were our study notebooks. Saturday afternoon we chose belts of truth and braided shoelaces for the shoes of the preparation of peace. We also chose sticks to be our swords of the Spirit. Dressed in all our armor, we're a ferocious and stylish crew! Wish I could post a photo here; if you're on Facebook, check out my post from last week.
We also hiked, cooked our own meals in the camp's fancy kitchen ("six burners! triple sinks!"), enjoyed the Perseid meteor shower and the sight of the stars (God knows them all by name!), slept in an upstairs dorm (ladies) and bunk beds in a cabin (guys), and had a wonderful worship service Sunday morning in the outdoor chapel (message from Karen Fu).
And Tim Peterson, the caretaker of Camp Paul Hummel (the 7th Day Baptist Church camp we were at), said we'd cleaned the bathrooms better than any group all season!
