An abundant week, part 2 After the retreat, we moved into Holy Week. Friday evening—Good Friday ... I recall a student asking me, decades ago, "You mean they were so glad someone killed Jesus that they have a special holiday and call it good?"
Anyway, at youth group on Good Friday we read from the Bible about different sins: all the horrible ones, like murder ... and the embarrassing ones, like adultery ... and the ones that strike home through our armor: "What about a lie that doesn't hurt anyone?" "Cheating isn't really stealing, though, is it?" "It's not really gossip!" "But when I write omg, I mean gosh, not God!"
We put black marks on shiny paper as we read about sins that we commit, then traded our ruined pages for new, clean ones and crosses. Empty crosses, other than our jeweled decorations, because the cross is empty, as is the tomb!
