What a fun evening! The youth group members were a bit wired this evening—loud and boisterous and silly. But we had a great time anyway! That's partly because the evening started with Vicki and me meeting with the pastor and the Christian Education Committee to discuss the proposed retreat. And they said yes! We may go! So we'll be in Estes Park the first full weekend in June! The second excitement of the evening was Angela's having gotten a baker friend of hers to make me a sugar-free birthday cake! It was in the youth room when I arrived, and the kids greeted me with, "Happy Birthday!" Such fun! Angela (who was my very first Chinese friend) had also made a beaded cross necklace for me, and it's beautiful! So we all had birthday cake while we worked through a spiritual gifts inventory. I'll report more on that later, but the kids enjoyed it. Some of the results were crashingly obvious: big Chris likes to sing and write. Well, duh. Some were confusing. But it was good to think about what God wants us to do. And now we can start planning the retreat!
