Youth group

Weeds and net

Oh, my, we did have fun in youth group this evening! I was teaching the parables of the weeds and the net from Matthew 13, and I'd brought in a container with lots of nails and tacks, plus a few coins. The rules were they couldn't dump it out, nor could they spill anything. But they had five seconds to get as much money as they could. For a while kids fished about, sticking their fingers and cheering over a rescued quarter or nickel. But two of my boys just shoved their hands in and pulled out fistfuls of nails-and-money. And that, of course, is what Jesus said will happen at the end of the age: we are mixed with the weeds here; we are collected with the bad fish. All are together on this earth. But in heaven ... then we're the good wheat, close to our sower! Then we filled bags with ramen, snacks, and candy, to hand out at Lamb's Lunch in the morning. That was followed by a game involving charades and drawing to guess Bible answers. Through all of this—object lesson, Bible story and discussion, preparing to give to the homeless, and the game—these kids are cheerful and delightful! Thank You, Lord!

	You are such a creative, cheerful and delightful model, Elsi. They can immediately sense your love for Jesus as well as for them...and that's obviously the key to their responsiveness. Bless you.
