Light of the world! John 8:12—When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
Last night was the Boulder Chinese Baptist Church Christmas program, with groups singing carols (in Chinese) and performing a skit of the story of the first Christmas (in Chinese), as well as the children's classes singing "Happy Birthday!" to Jesus (in English). Four of my teens performed Christmas songs on their violins ... quite impressive!
Vicki and I sat with a Chinese graduate student, visiting the church for the first time. She watched the baptism with incredulity and asked many questions. I wondered if she was at all familiar with the Christmas story, and she told me she had received a video about it at the university. "I talk long time with professor there about metaphysical aspects of this story," she told me.
This morning was Lamb's Lunch. Five of my students helped distribute clothes to cold, homeless people, come in from the cold for a hot meal and fellowship. All were polite and grateful, even though we had no longjohns, no gloves, no large coats, even. "Merry Christmas!" we wished each other, with joy and sincerity.
This evening was the community Christmas program at Little Church in the Pines, near Gold Hill, quite a way up in the foothills west of Boulder. We sang fun Christmas songs such as "Rudolph" (complete with the silly line endings) and "Jingle Bells," told stories ("Visit from St. Nicholas" and the shepherds' story from Luke 2), moved to real Christmas carols, and closed with a candle-lighting ceremony to "Silent Night."
We wish you a merry Christmas! Come, let us adore Him! Sleep in heavenly peace! Let heaven and nature sing!
