Aaron Provincial Park, Ontario Driving east out of Kenora, I was distracted from the road by all the lakes, fingers of lakes, little wooded islands in the lakes, wandering streams, lakes so small as to be mere pools—oh, wow! Stopped at Fort Vermilion, which is a gentle tourist trap—a playground, a picnic area, a few artsy-craftsy gifts, and a lunchroom. Period. But it’s a pretty place … At Egli’s Sheep Farm and Animal Park, Sallie spotted the large sheep and started barking wildly. I didn’t attempt the animal pens, but made it as far as the barn where I saw pigs, rabbits, chickens, peafowl, and a sheep with a lamb. Purrr. Stopped at an IGA in Dryden for a few needed groceries—the stores can’t carry baby aspirin (which is trademarked here) unless they have a pharmacy. And they had no cooking pot (I need more hardboiled eggs, having eaten my way through the three weeks’ supply I brought with me). But Shannon and Sherrie, kindly clerks took me on as a cause. They directed me to Wal-Mart, and found me a campground with wifi, all out of the goodness of their hearts! The Lord always does provide me with an angel or two when I need one! When I told Sherrie I’m from Boulder, Colorado, she responded immediately, “That’s where Mork and Mindy are from!” I stopped by the Visitor Centre to see Maximilian the Moose, too large for Sallie to recognize as an animal. And then Wal-Mart. And landed at Aaron Provincial Park in Wabigoon—a beautiful park, filled with evergreens, birches, and other trees, thick and dark and gorgeous.
