On my way home from St. Louis this morning, I got gas in Kingdom City, MO, then pulled into the McDonald's parking lot for a sausage-egg-mcmuffin-no-muffin. To Sallie's horror, a truck full of loudly protesting cows was parked right next to us. They mooed, she bayed—the noise was tremendous! On the other side was a truck with a trailer, and a couple with a small dog. We walked into McD's together, chatting vaguely about our travels. They aren't full-timers yet, but plan to be; they've been serving as campground hosts this summer, before wintering in Louisiana. I explained that I'm looking for fall color, "which I miss because I grew up in a suburb of St. Louis, Webster Groves ..." At which point the couple began to chuckle. He is Dan Richter (Rickter?), class of '63, two years ahead of me! Small world indeed!
