“The Lord planted a garden …” Ten years ago last Wednesday, I moved into this house—a house the Lord chose for me and led me to. I had the fun of decorating it, learning the neighborhood, living here with two different beagles (Lady and Sallie) and two different cats (Cassie and Dolphin).
The house had a couple of juniper bushes along the front, which have grown and gotten quite nasty in their old age. If you brushed against them, you got raw, burning scratches. They served well for draping Christmas lights on, and that was about it. So this spring I asked Chase Vaccarelli, my yard buddy, if he'd pull the little beasts out. This he did, and the front of my house looks so open and clean and welcoming!
AND, this afternoon, Chase and I went to a tree nursery and chose some shrubs and a tree to landscape the newly opened area. I am now the proud owner of:
• two magic carpet spiraea, with beautiful red flowers,
• two dwarf burning bushes, of gorgeous crimson,
• a red prince weigela, with profuse red flowers, and
• an aristocrat pear tree, which will flower but not produce fruit.
At the moment they're sitting in their pots in the grass, enjoying being watered, waiting for Chase to find time to plant them.
Ain't it fun?!
