Let there be lights

Wednesday I put my outside lights up, with the help of four young elves: Riley and Reagan Christianssen, and Jeran and Sydney Smith. I tutor Jeran and Reagan; Riley is the 6th grade author I took to Colorado Christian Writers Conference in May. The two 6th graders did all my gutter lights with the help of a wondrous rod I found at Target. It screws into the gutter clips. You slip the light string into the clip, and hoist the whole thing to the gutter. One pull down clips it on, and all you have to do then is unscrew it. (Taking them down will be a bit trickier, as it's hard to screw the pole into a clip on the gutter!) The little girls (2nd graders) and I put up the figures for the lighted Nativity scene. Then the girls used a regular extension pole to put lights in my maple tree. And my house is gorgeous! Genesis tells us, "God said, Let there be light. And there was light!" The Gospels tell us that Jesus said He is the light of the world. And Christmas lights remind me of both of those, and of His light in my heart, and that I'm to be a light for the world to see ... what a wonderful season this is!
