Cockroach letter I asked my favorite Kampground organization, KOA, for help in deciphering their new rewards system, because the instructions on the website are way too complicated for me to figure out. They sent me a sweet email thanking me for my feedback and suggesting I go to their website for help. So I responded:
"I already told you I couldn't figure out the system from the website, so sending me to the website is ridiculous! Of course, the email you sent me is a cockroach letter—and it's always fun to get a real cockroach letter, so I'll subdue my frustration with laughter and move on.
"You do know the cockroach letter story, don't you? Let me elucidate:
"Once upon a time, an executive was flying on a fancy airplane and noticed a cockroach in the aisle. On arriving at his destination, he fired off a letter to the president of the airline, pointing out that roaches thrive where there's filth, and that he expected better things of the airline company.
"He got a delightful letter in response, deploring the roach incident, saying that the plane and its hangar had been fumigated and that the maintenance crew had been sanctioned, and closing, Thank you so much for bringing this horrible situation to our attention!"
"He was feeling pretty good, until he noticed a scrap of paper in the envelope: Sarah—send this nut the cockroach letter."
