November … There's a poem about November (by Thomas Hood) that lists nos in the month, but it's fairly depressing:
No sun - no moon!
No morn - no noon -
No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day.
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member -
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! -
November!
I disagree with his negative approach. Trying to dash out some positive thoughts on this month, I offer:
No creepy Halloween (weird, unbecoming);
No lengthy wait for thanks, and advent’s coming!
No gloomy morning dark—the time has switched.
No green, but no bare trees: autumn’s enriched.
No snow that’s stuck around for weeks and weeks;
The season’s changing … no regrets … God speaks!
However, I only had two families of trick-or-treaters last night, total of about six kids. I gave Focus on the Family story CDs, Halloween tracts, and candy wrapped in paper with Scripture verses printed on it.
And now we're in November, building up momentum for the run into the holiday season. What a blessing!
