Charles Martin’s books Oh, my! I mentioned in an earlier post that my BC friend had recommended Chasing Fireflies by Charles Martin, an author I'd not come across before. I read it, liked it a lot, and went looking for the rest of his books.
My local Christian bookstores carry Fireflies, but not the others. I did finally track down Wrapped in Rain, which I devoured.
Then, hallellujah!, I found all the rest at Mardel Saturday! And swept them off the shelves with glee. I checked copyright dates so I could start with the first one, though they're not a series (well, two are linked; the others are stand-alones).
Yesterday I started The Dead Don't Dance. Martin doesn't choose easy themes, and I was pulled into the characters and the story, as I had been with the other two books. But I'm single, childless, female ... it didn't seem I had a heart connection with the protagonist. By this morning I was about halfway through. And when Dylan was screaming at God, "Why aren't You here? Why aren't You in this ditch with us? Why don't You do something?" I couldn't hold back the tears.
I'm now well into Maggie, which is the sequel. It has wrenched tears from me, also. This is a powerful author!
