“children of all ages” I went to the circus this afternoon! Yes, the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus!
My parents and I always went to the Shrine Circus when it came to St. Louis. And later I went to the "real" circus, wherever I was living. I took friends to Ringling in Denver every fall for years, but haven't gone for several seasons now.
Friends picked me up and drove us to the Coliseum, where my handicap parking placard got us close-in parking! We were near the front of the line for the pre-show. The guard checked our bags for food (which we had, but he didn't seem to care); I bought programs; we headed to the center ring.
We saw clowns, tumblers, elephants, horses ... and Ella (seven) was picked by a clown to walk the tightrope! Then to our seats, high and near the end, but with a great view.
Circus is circus, with the band music, the singing ringmaster, the "spec" (parade) ... all the remembered delights! At intermission we had hotdogs, and the kids wanted lighted toys.
"Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages" is the traditional welcome announcement. Jesus said we should come to Him as little children. I'm definitely a child at the circus ... may I keep that open-eyed, awed attitude toward the glories of our Lord!
