Remember … House Church Communion ... Feb. 12, 2008 ... Matthew 4
looking at Matthew 4, I noticed:
-->Jesus refusing to change His purpose when tempted
-->fulfilling His purpose based on Isaiah’s prophecy
-->calling Peter and Andrew, James and John
-->teaching and preaching and healing
struck by a couple of things
-->shown in this chapter
-->backed up elsewhere in Scripture
HIS determination to follow what He had been told to do—As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. (Luke 9:51) And Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2)
and those who knew Him (which includes us) choosing to follow, no matter what—Then He said to them all: "If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me. (Luke 9:23) and When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12)
so … if we choose to do what Jesus said, we will follow Him
-->if we model ourselves on what He did … we will follow Him
“I Have Decided to Follow Jesus”
and He did it for love
-->love = a verb, an action rather than an emotion
-->“for the joy set before Him endured the cross”
and He won!
-->He beat death!
-->He suffered and died and rose … because He loves us!
remember that, oh, remember that!
-->The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, He broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me."
-->In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me."
