My attitude … I was looking at the "bunny ear" photos this afternoon (see April 6 post), enjoying the animals' expressions. And I got to thinking ...
Lady: Sometimes my mama has good ideas. Sometimes she doesn’t. But, overall, my life is pretty good—filled with beagle-patters, plates to lick, an RV to carry me to new smells, sunshine, and lots of love. I’m sure she has a reason for everything she plans for me. After all, she loves me a lot, so I should be patient and remind myself that soon we’ll have a bit of chicken, a loving pat, a nap, or even … oh, joy! … a walk!
Dolphin: I cannot believe she is doing this to me! It is … it is absolutely insufferable! How can she even think of such a thing, much less put it into practice! I will be gracious. I will be mature. I will give her five more seconds to free me. And then I will bite and fight and claw and yeowl and cause so much trouble that she will never again treat me in such a way! The indignity! The embarrassment! The … absolute lack of love and care and respect! Words fail me.
Elsi: And I think, I often don’t like what the Lord does to me, what He allows in my life. Of course, He doesn’t ask my permission. He patiently continues His sovereign care of both me and the universe.
So the question is, what will I do? What attitude will I take? Will I respond like my beagle, with acceptance and trust in His love? Or will I react more like the cat, with anger and resentment and refusal to cooperate?
Help me, loving Father, to remember that You love me, that Jesus died and lives for me, and that You know best—no matter how it appears to me.
As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9)
