Uno, the winningest beagle From Lady: Oh, did you see? Did you? Did you watch Uno on TV, or read about him in the paper? Uno’s the beagle who got BEST OF SHOW at the Westminster Kennel Club show at Madison Square Gardens! Never before in the 100 years of the contest has a beagle gotten best of show! His handler describes him as “a merry little dog,� which is a good description of all my breed. He also said, “He does cuteness well,� another typical observation for me and my friends. I take Uno’s win as a personal accolade, of course. Anyone who has ever met a beagle knows that we are the most loving, most adorable, friendliest, most helpful, and clearly the most absolutely lap-sized dog in the universe! My mama says she’s glad God doesn’t do people contests like the dog show. At first I didn’t see what she means, because God would choose me, and he’d choose my mama, too. Maybe even Dolphin. But then I got to thinking, maybe I wouldn’t win, compared with Uno. Even though I’m wonderful, I suppose it’s remotely possible I’m not quite as handsome as Uno. But God doesn’t compare us with anyone except ourselves. And Mama’s right, that’s a good thing! God loves me just the way I am, and He encourages me to keep doing better and better! Ah-whoooooo!
