Escaped cat Dolphin slipped out of the house this afternoon. I have no idea how he managed it, unless he darted out while I was bringing the trash cans in. My neighbor thought she spotted him on the front porch, which I doubted, until I couldn't find him anywhere in the house. He's never out unless on his harness and leash, and he has no survival skills in the big, bad world, much less in the street.
I walked around the house calling. Of course, calling a cat is generally an exercise in futility! Then I left the front door standing open, in spite of the gloom and the cold, and did another sweep of the inside, opening cabinet doors and drawers. No Dolphin.
But I heard a little voice, calling, "Meow?"
To the door I rushed, and there he stood, sniffing at the screen, in perfect confidence that I would let him in. Which, of course, I gleefully did!
Only later did I think, Dolphin trusted that I wanted him back, even though he'd been naughty and done what he knew was against the rules. He came back and waited for me. That's what I need to do with the Lord: even when I've strayed because of my own poor choice, all I have to do is turn and call to Him. And He opens His door and welcomes me back to His arms.
